A local business devoted to ending hunger and food waste is celebrating yet another achievement in the span of just one month. Food Link is among the 17 Massachusetts nonprofits awarded a total of $200,000 from the Sincere Foundation.
This news comes just three weeks after the Arlington-based business acquired the Food information Sharing Hub (FISH); a digital platform made to improve coordination and communication across the food rescue ecosystem.
Since 2023, the Sincere Foundation has awarded more than $1.2 million in grants to nonprofits that seek to break cycles of poverty and social isolation. This recent disrtribution of grants was awarded to organizations statewide that address the basic needs of a community – food security, housing stability, and safe spaces.
In a statement sent to YourArlington, Rachel Albert, executive director of Food Link, said the donation arrives at a pivotal moment. “With food insecurity now affecting 40 percent of Massachusetts households and fully half of households in Suffolk County [and] Boston, this kind of flexible funding helps us meet rising need with a proven solution; reclaiming surplus food.”
Albert said Food Link plans to put these newly received funds towards the organization’s new “bulk revocery program” at the Greater Boston Collaborative Food Access Hub in Roxbury.
“With the hub’s 6,000 square feet of cold storage and two truck-height loading docks, we’re able to rescue food by the pallet and bring more fresh foods to our partners here in Arlington, including Arlington Eats, the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, and several Arlington Housing Authority residences,” said Albert.
Six food security nonprofits across the state were awarded this funding, including organizations in Natick, Great Barrington, Amesbury, Worcester, and Gloucester.
