Freezing cold temperatures will hit Arlington this weekend, and the town has sent out reminders about proper snow and ice removal procedures to ensure resident safety.
An arctic cold front bringing dangerously cold weather is heading into Greater Boston neighborhoods starting Dec. 5 and continuing into Friday. In the chance of snow, residents needing to travel are asked to park off-street to help facilitate removal operations. The town is also asking residents and businesses to keep public walkways clear in accordance with town bylaws.
According to the town website, Arlington requires the community to remove snow and ice from abutting paved sidewalks within eight hours between sunrise and sunset after a storm. Businesses and owners of residential property must begin removal procedures within three hours. The town fines those who do not abide by these laws between $25 to $50 per day.
All trash, recycling and yard waste containers are required to be secured in a manner that prevents them from going into the roadway and impeding snow removal operations. The town reminds residents that items buried in snow will not be collected.
