After community members have expressed concern surrounding the safety of Poets Corner Playground in Arlington Heights — the town has announced the park is officially closed as of July 22.
According to a recent town announcement, Arlington’s Playground Safety Inspector, deemed the structure unsafe and the equipment will be removed by the Recreation Department. Caution tape and temporary fencing now surround the park.
“The playground has been in a state of disrepair for years. It was already rusty and somewhat falling apart when we moved to Arlington in 2013. However, it was still widely used by all the kids and families that live around it,” said Dave Shrewsbury, Arlington resident who lives nearby Poets Corner Playground.
The Park and Recreation Commission is expected to review their Capital Improvement Plans at an upcoming meeting to discuss these concerns, along with potential “next steps” for the park, according to the release.
While residents wait to learn the future of Poets Corner, families are encouraged to visit one of the town’s other 34 playgrounds and fields, listed here >>
