UPDATED: In what is being billed as another step toward a cleaner future for Arlington, the town announced that it will be participating in a feasibility study through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (Masscec) on-street charging solutions program.
This study is intended to explore the potential for electric vehicle street charging in Arlington, at no cost to the town. Compared to off-street charging in parking lots and driveways, on-street charging includes curbside, pole-mounted, and streetlight stations.
A townwide release sent May 27 detailed that the Department of Public Works is seeking to address gaps in electric vehicle charging access. By increasing the accessibility of charging stations, the town can encourage and support the use of electric vehicles — a high priority established in Arlington’s Net Zero Action Plan.
The town is requesting community input, and the deadline has been extended an additional week. Residents with ideas on where these on-street charging stations should be installed are invited to complete this survey >>, which will now be open until Friday, June 27. The survey also addresses challenges related to general electric vehicle access.
The results of the feasibility study will support future grant applications to help pay for station installation. The study is funded by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) in partnership with Commonwealth Electric Technologies (CET) and Leidos.
