Mill Brook traffic
Traffic on and near Mill Brook Drive will be affected by the next construction phase. The signal at Mill Street and Mill Brook Drive were activated on Feb. 19, during school vacation week, according to a news release from the town. “The new traffic signal was installed to enhance safety and manage traffic flow, particularly for students attending Arlington High School. During peak school hours in the morning and afternoon, the light will prioritize traffic entering and exiting Mill Brook Drive,” according to the release. “At other times, it will operate on a standard timing sequence. This adjustment aims to alleviate congestion on Mill St. and make the intersection safer and more efficient for everyone.”
Traffic patterns in the area will change as access from Mill Brook Drive is limited. Phase 4, the final stage of the construction that began in October 2020, will begin, and some of the key points, according to the project’s website, include:
- Abatement of Downs House will begin Feb 17 and run for approximately three weeks, with demolition taking place from March 3 to mid-April. During this time, increased truck traffic is expected on Mill Brook Drive. During demolition, water trucks, street sweepers, and staff will be employed to reduce dust on the construction site and surrounding areas.
- As of Feb. 17, Peirce Field is now only accessible from Schouler Court. There will not be access to Peirce Field from Mill Brook Drive during Phase 4. Parking for Peirce Field events is at the new west parking lot off of Schouler Court. A protected pedestrian pathway leads from the west parking lot to the field.
- Rodent control will remain through the duration of Phase 4 construction. The Project team is working closely with Modern Pest Control to ensure locations are adjusted appropriately to account for the Phase 4 logistics changes.
No tours this time
Asked about tours, Amy Speare, representing the AHS Building Committee, wrote Feb. 20: “There are no tours currently planned for the high school this spring.”
