Apparently, the website’s tree scribe does a quick Google search, considers “locally” anything miles and miles away and puts fingers to keys. And therein the site blunders very, very badly — for any Arlingtonian can get a tree nearby without driving on a highway.
A very short drive to Lexington, an adjoining town, finds tree sellers Follen Church, Wilson’s Farm and Seasons Four, where we just purchased a really nice seven-foot tree for $50 and perused their fabulous Christmas City of decorations.
Another short drive to yet another adjoining town, Winchester, finds Mahoney’s Garden Center with what looks to be hundreds of trees to choose from as well as a sea of holiday plants.
And just out of Arlington Center, the truly local, Arlington Boys & Girls Club is the host for its annual tree and wreath fund-raising event. So, in reality, there is no need to do a time and fuel consuming expedition in highway traffic to Reading, Saugus or Wakefield for your Christmas tree as Patch would erroneously have you believe!

For more than 50 years the Arlington Boys & Girls Club has been selling Christmas trees and wreaths as its largest fund-raiser of the year. Starting Saturday, Nov. 30, and running seven days a week until the trees sell out, shop at the club for your farm-fresh tree and wreath and support youth programming and activities. Balsam fir trees from Canada, ranging in size from table top to nine feet are on the lot. Decorated and undecorated wreaths are also available for sale.
On-site sale hours are Monday-Thursday, 3 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 9 to 8. Look to the club’s website for more information. The success of this fund-raiser is due to the volunteers who help work the tree lot. Click here to sign up and bring some merry to your holiday season.
