The driver stated that he immediately pulled over to the side of the road and checked on the well-being of the rider of the black Trek bicycle, a 20-year-old from Brookline, who was initially dazed but then was able to stand. The cyclist said that he was also westbound in the right lane and looking around when suddenly he noticed the van stopped in front of him and did not have enough time to react and so crashed, went over his handlebars and hit his right thigh on his handlebars, causing slight pain.
Armstrong paramedics and Arlington Fire conducted an evaluation and stated that he had sustained no serious injuries; he then signed a patient-refusal form, as he denied needing further services. Both the van driver and cyclist received officer-contact information with the report number for this incident. The driver left, the cyclist arranged to have his mother pick him up and officers were able to clear the scene.
The damage to the van was to the rear bumper and trunk area, according to the APD.
