The village in El Salvador — beset by drinking water contaminated by E Coli, rust and lead — has received help from Arlington and other supporters. An process is underway to establish a secure water system. Here’s what happened:

State of Emergency in El Salvador
On March 27, after 87 homicides, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele declared a state of emergency. Several journalists have reported that the murders point to a pact that this administration, like previous administrations, negotiated with gangs, and that the gangs now are pushing for more favorable treatment.
Of great concern is that the state of emergency increases government control over civil society. Rights that were suspended include: freedom of assembly and association, the right to legal assistance, and the inviolability of correspondence. The state of emergency also extends administrative detention from 72 hours to 15 days.
