At Carbon Countdown 2021, Massachusetts climate groups and key legislators plan to discuss successful climate actions and how to advance critical climate legislation on Saturday, March 13, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Massachusetts leaders, Sen. Mike Barrett and Rep. Tami Gouveia, will focus on the status and future of our climate legislation. You’ll also hear about local initiatives to combat climate change identified through the 2021 community climate action survey. Ten breakout sessions will cover powerful local solutions and successes.
Two of the breakout sessions will be led by Ken Pruitt, Arlington’s energy manager, speaking on “Net Zero Municipal Planning,” and Arlington Mothers Out Front member Anne Wright on “Community Tools for Transitioning Off Fossil Fuels.”
This free, virtual event is organized by Sustainable Middlesex, a long-standing, part-time coalition of local sustainability groups and Mothers Out Front chapters. Sustainable Arlington members who have served on the event organizing committee over the years include David Landskov and Gail McCormick and, currently, Brucie Moulton.

S.9, an act creating a next-generation road map for Massachusetts Climate Policy (192nd session), will be a main focus. This is the bill (then numbered S.2995) that Gov. Baker vetoed at the end of the last legislative session in January. It was then immediately renumbered as S.9 and sent back to him. He then returned it to legislators with amendments. Further action is expected soon.
