Changes affect frequency of Route 89 (between Davis Square, Clarendon Hill)
Starting Sept. 1, the MBTA is adding a bus service to Arlington Center.
Route 95, which runs between West Medford and Sullivan Square, will begin running alternating trips to Arlington Center with new stops on High Street in Medford and Medford Street in Arlington.
Route 95 will begin and end its route in Arlington Center on Medford Street by the Regent Theatre, in the same location where the Route 80 stops. This change will provide more transit connections to Arlington residents by providing a direct link from the Center to Sullivan Square on the MBTA’s Orange Line.
Additionally, Route 89, which runs between Sullivan Square and Clarendon Hill, will run on an adjusted schedule.
Between Clarendon Hill, on the edge of Somerville and Arlington, and Davis Square, there will be reduced hours on weekdays and weekend service will be eliminated.
On weekdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and after 1 p.m., bus riders will need to take Route 87 or 88 to Davis Square and transfer to the 89 for service to Sullivan Square. The purpose of this change is to provide more frequent bus service between Davis, Broadway/Winter Hill and Sullivan Square.
The changes come under the T’s Better Bus Project, an initiative to improve its bus system and provide better bus service. In early 2019, the MBTA shared 47 proposals for near-term changes to the bus system.
In April, the Fiscal Management and Control Board approved 27 of the proposals without adjustments, and nine with adjustments based on public feedback.
