UPDATED, June 9: Arlington Public Art raised an estimated $4,000 from donations contributed toward 40 decorated seats in the seventh annual Chairful Where You Sit, held June 8 at Uncle Sam Plaza.
Organizer Adria Arch reported the winners of three Peoples’ Choice awards — Linda Cundiff (at left with her chair), Joy Spadafora and Suzanne MacLeod.
The Juror as well as the A-DOG awards went to Cundiff.
Chairful Where You Sit, a temporary outdoor art installation featuring reimagined chairs, was part of Arlington Porchfest.

Arlington Public Art sold chairs for a donation of $100 and the funds go to our steadily building, exciting public art programming.
Arch says the effort had nearly 50 chairs available to the public for a donation of $100 to the Fund for Public Art under the auspices of the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture.
Chairs have been rescued from the trash and reimagined with the theme of “Sustainability: Flora and Fauna” in mind.
In the past six Chairful events, we’ve rescued more than 500 chairs from the trash. All reimagined chairs were accepted, but the group hopes to feature chairs that speak to this timely theme.
The event has previously been exhibited at Feast of the East and at Whittemore Park in front of the Cyrus E. Dallin Art Museum in Arlington Center.
Local artists and creative neighbors have transformed ordinary chairs — often “orphan” chairs found in the trash — into works of art. Artists have used imagination and diverse materials including paint, collage, fabric, real plants, leather, string, hockey sticks, toys, and lots more to astonish and delight. Chairs have been whimsical, serious, or stunning, sporty, political, and more.
