A short time later officers located the vehicle driving in Arlington and conducted a traffic stop. The town police log says the arrest occurred on Dothan Street, near McClennen Park.
While conducting a search of the vehicle, a red backpack was located. Inside, officers found $25,000 in cash, about 12 ounces of marijuana packed in small plastic baggies, a digital scale and a 150-count box of resealable plastic bags. The amount of marijuana seized is enough to create somewhere between 600 and 800 marijuana cigarettes.
The three men inside the vehicle, identified as Barnett, Taylor and the driver, Butler, were taken into custody without incident.
No firearm was found, and the investigation into the road-rage incident remains ongoing by Chelsea police.
Ryan notes that it remains a crime to possess large quantities or marijuana and to package and sell marijuana on the streets.
The amount of marijuana seized, 11.4 grams, is enough to create somewhere between 600-800 marijuana cigarettes.
“This case is an example of many moving parts coming together to affect the proper outcome,” Ryan said in the release. “All within a span of 25 minutes, two municipal law enforcement agencies, a few miles apart, communicated effectively about a dangerous incident that had just occurred and officers were able to determine the likely location of the suspects through solid detective work.
“As a result, three suspects are in custody, drugs have been found, and the profits from alleged drug dealing have been seized. The messages are clear: Criminals cannot escape by coming across a municipal border, and while our communities have made great strides toward helping those who use drugs, we continue to aggressively pursue those who sell drugs.”
The suspects were processed at the Arlington Police Department and will be arraigned Tuesday, Sept. 4, in Cambridge District Court.
