Linda Shoemaker, executive director of Arlington Center for the Arts, provided the following update about progress about construction of the new center in the Senior Center building.
I am excited to announce that construction at 20 Academy Street has begun – a major milestone on the path to the new Arlington Center for the Arts!
Over the next several months, crews will be transforming 8,000 square feet of former office space into an inviting new hub of creativity for our community.
THANK YOU to all who have supported ACA through this major transition – we are on our way! Over the past 18 months, more than 600 supporters have contributed over $800,000 to the Future Fund Capital Campaign to fund this $1million construction project. The goal is in sight!
We look forward to keeping you updated on construction progress over the next several months. Here’s a peek at some of what’s happening this week:
High in the rafters at 20 Academy Street, ACA’s inspiring new classrooms and artist studios feature bright light, huge exposed brick chimneys and stunning 1890’s-era wooden beams and trusses.
The construction team in the future location of ACA’s gallery annex and “art cafe” – a great place to relax with a cup of coffee or tea, or have a meeting and enjoy exhibits by local and regional artists.

The soaring ceilings and skylights in the fourth-floor loft space will bring out the creativity in all of us!
The renovation is expected to take 4-5 months. The capital campaign will continue through the build-out, as we continue to work towards our $1 million goal to complete the project and ensure the long-term sustainability of the Arlington Center for the Arts.
