UPDATED, Nov. 13: Arlington High School’s Ryan Oosting topped Mike Griffin of King Philip by nearly a minute (15:37.16 to 16:27.61), in the boys’ Division 3 race of the Eastern State Divisional meet on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Sharon’s Tianrui Sun finished third at 16:33.37. Concord-Carlisle took the team crown, with 85 points, followed by Arlington, with 106.
The All-State meet is Saturday in Gardner.

Hyde shines as girls lose to Sachems — and look ahead
Frigid as the day was, spirits were high and hopeful at the Arlington Res on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Arlington girls’ cross-country team members were not going to let the weather deter them from having a great last home meet of the season and a wonderful commemorative senior night.
The girls ran hard, but lost, 31-24, against the Winchester Sachems.
Junior Sarah Hyde raced to a season’s best, of 19:20, beating out Winchester’s Chloe Pienaar for a first-place finish.

The Sachems claimed the third spot, but all eyes were on the next pack of four athletes, who finished the three-mile course within two seconds of one another. The Sachems stole the fourth and sixth spots, while junior captains Marie Olland (20:02) and Katherine Faiola (20:04) took fifth and seventh place, respectively.
The Spy Ponders also secured eighth and 10th places, with Sophomore Annie Cave (20:38) and junior Caroline Dressler (20:52).
JVs come out on top
The junior varsity team did Arlington proud, racing to a 15-45 victory. Senior captain Julia Richardson (20:57) won the race, in fastest time in her career. Freshmen Alevia Doyle (21:55) and Devon Haessler (22:12) continued to lead Arlington’s JV squad to success, placing second and third, respectively.
This home meet was more than just a competition; it was a memory in the making. The team honored its two graduating seniors, Richardson and Frances Lin (25:29), for their ever-present enthusiasm and humor and contributions to the team.
Next up, the Spy Ponders will be racing in the Middlesex League Meet and Coaches’ Invitational. On Saturday, Nov. 12, the team will travel to Wrentham for the State Divisional Meet, where they will compete to win a spot at the All-State Meet.
