Veteran Arlington Selectman Kevin Greeley has one less challenge: Gordon A. Jamieson Jr. of 163 Scituate St., who took out papers for the board Feb. 11, did not return them by the Feb. 22 deadline. Maria A. Romano of 25 Bates Road took out papers Feb. 10, and she did return them. 

Nathan Bosdet, 30, took out nomination papers Feb. 2 in a potential run for selectman, and his papers were returned. Greeley, board chairman, took out papers Jan. 28. One selectman's seat will be on the April town election ballot.

Bosdet wrote in an e-mail that he works for a consulting firm, as an economic analyst, that provides economic data to companies, nongovernmental organizations and governments in support of their expatriate programs.

He recently moved to Arlington from Cambridge and has been in the Boston/Cambridge/Arlington area for over three years. Before that, he lived in Texas and California.

Jamieson is a veteran Town Meeting member and co-chair of the Arlington Recycling Committee. He cited press of his business as the reason for not returning papers.

 

Romano, 59, said in a telephone interview Feb. 17, "I want to be a bridge between aloof officials and residents."

A general contractor who has lived in Arlington for the last 31 years, Romano heads the East Arlington concerned Citizens Committee, which has been involved in questioning the proposed changes to Mass. Ave. in East Arlington.

"We need to get back to basic between people, involving civility and respect," she said.

She noted she has advanced degrees that reflect her passions -- a master's in education as well as in interior and structural design.

Among those she said are part of her campaign is Sheri Baron, an East Arlington resident who has been active with the Arlington Human Rights Commission and was among those who urged a 1993 ballot question that led to the end of Arlington's reputation as a "dry" town and the expansion of its restaurants.

She is a licensed contractor and runs her own construction company, M.A. Romano, Construction, which does residential remodeling.
