5 AHS students suspended in armed robbery

Five Arlington High School students were suspended, and several face criminal charges after an apparent drug deal escalated into an armed robbery in school restroom on Monday, Jan. 25, according to Capt. Robert Bongiorno.

Police allege that a trio of students arranged to purchase a bag of marijuana from an AHS student, setting the stage for an elaborate plan for an armed robbery. After the victim was lured into a restroom, he was ambushed by another suspect who was hiding in a stall, placed into a headlock, and held at knifepoint while the suspects stole his drugs and money.

During the robbery, the third suspect stood outside the door as a lookout and prevented people from entering the restroom. At the conclusion of the robbery, a fourth student held the knife for one of the robbers, a police report said.

Police were tipped off about the robbery by the victim’s sister, and immediately launched an investigation. They found the fourth student at the high school and in possession of the knife during the investigation.

Three students were arrested and charged with armed robbery; two of those students face additional charges of possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds.

Additionally, the student who was selling the marijuana will face charges for drug distribution. Police did not release the names of any of the suspects, because all are juveniles.

About YourArlington

Bob SpragueYourArlington.com is an experiment in community journalism dedicated to reporting news about Arlington, Mass., and the Arlington-related views of its residents. The experiment not unique but is part of a nationwide movement called "citizen journalism." The phrase gained currency through We the Media, a 2004 book by Dan Gillmor. This kind of journalism encourages members of a community to write about that community. The writing may be reporting, or it may be opinion.
