Vote Tuesday on T’s Green Line extension http://www.yourarlington.com/development/3150-green-line-sept310 http://www.yourarlington.com/development/3150-green-line-sept310 Green Line image

The Department of Transportation’s board is scheduled to vote Tuesday, Sept. 7, on a design contract for the Green Line extension that was postponed last month, a contract that includes Big Dig partner Parsons Brinckerhoff as a subcontractor. The vote was delayed because the board lacked a quorum, The Boston Globe reported Sept. 6.

The $24.5 million contract for preliminary engineering, covering design of the route, stations, and a related maintenance facility, is not technically a new contract, but rather a "contract amendment" — an extension of one that Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc. bid for and won in 2007 to handle the initial conceptual design for the Green Line.

Middlesex Sheriff DiPaola endorses Kennedy for Governors Council http://www.yourarlington.com/state-election-information/3157-tkennedy-sept610 http://www.yourarlington.com/state-election-information/3157-tkennedy-sept610 Terrence Kennedy

Middlesex Sheriff James V. DiPaola has announced his support of attorney Terry Kennedy of Lynnfield in his effort to become the next Governors Councilor from the Sixth District in Massachusetts.

DiPaola cited Kennedy's 27 years as a trial attorney, his knowledge of the court system and his judgment.

"Judges matter!" DiPaola said in a news release from Kennedy's office. "Justice for the accused and equally important, for the victim(s) of a crime, depends on appointing judges who not only understand the law and how to accurately apply it, but who also understand that fairness and impartiality are the twin bedrocks that guarantee your confidence in our justice and court system. Terry Kennedy gets it!"

Support Arlington girl in Jimmy Fund walk Sunday http://www.yourarlington.com/people/3154-emily-sept420 http://www.yourarlington.com/people/3154-emily-sept420 Emily Coughlin and sister
Isabelle Coughlin hugs
sister Emily.

This year, Emily Sarah Coughlin and her dad will take part in a walk to raise money to fight cancer, money that will help the Arlington 5-year-old.

Emily was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma in May 2009. Since her diagnosis, she has gone through a variety of intensive treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, extensive surgery, two stem cell transplants and a newly researched antibody therapy. It has been a long and difficult journey for Emily and her family.

On Sunday, Sept. 12, Arlington residents Caitlin Collins, Linda Collins, Amy McHugh (mother of Emily and Isabelle Coughlin), Brian McHugh, Claire McHugh, Sarah McHugh, Karen Doherty, Leo Doherty, and 52 of their family and friends spanning the state will join more than 7,600 people as Team EmmaBelle in the 22nd annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.

Since her diagnosis, the Jimmy Fund has become Emily’s "home away from home." It is a place where she has spent countless days fighting this disease.
Walkers may choose one of four routes: the entire 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston, the 13.1 miles from Babson to Boston, the 5 miles from Boston College, or the 3 miles with patients and their families starting at the main Dana-Farber campus.

Last September, Emily was unable to participate in the walk because she recently had surgery to remove a tumor and was then a patient at Children's Hospital.
