Seniors "blow up" AHS with 3,300 balloons

Balloons in stairwell at Arlington High, May 18, 2012

Leaf blowers are not the only issue providing hot air in Arlington. Check out the balloons at Arlington High School.

In a prank by seniors discovered May 18, interim Principal Mary Villano told parents what happened.

Photos included in an email Monday, May 21, showed what was waiting for school staffers when they arrived that Friday. "The entire stairwell from the cafeteria leading up to the main lobby near media center was filled with balloons," she wrote.

"I later discovered there were 3,300 of them. It was quite a spectacle and started the day off with lots of laughs and excitement. Many of you probably saw pictures that your children took on their phones.

To mark Memorial Day weekend and the beginning of summer in Boston, MyBike has released its list of top-10 bike-ride destinations in greater Boston -- and on top is the Minuteman Bikeway.

MyBike, in South Boston, compiled the list based on customer feedback and staff expertise. The criteria for the list include ease of trail accessibility, quality of scenery and overall appeal to cyclists of all ages and skill levels.

With fuel prices on the rise and disposable income on the decline, more Boston residents are opting to spend the summer at home and forgo the usual seasonal family car trips.

"Many families are finding that their summer budgets are tight this year. The good news is, the city of Boston is full of bike-friendly destinations where you can take your friends or family members for days of low-cost, outdoor fun," said LeRoy Watkins III, president and founder of MyBike.

Here's the complete list:
